Northern Illinois Weather: Chicago Faces 105° Heat Index Amid Storms

Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois residents should prepare for a week of extreme weather as the region braces for a mix of severe thunderstorms and soaring heat indices. Periods of showers and thunderstorms are expected through the middle of the week, with many dry hours interspersed.

According to the US National Weather Service in Chicago, there’s a chance for severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon. High temperatures will gradually increase each day, reaching the lower 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Heat indices are predicted to be locally between 100-105°F, depending on storm coverage and timing.

Sunday’s forecast shows a 40-60% chance of thunderstorms with temperatures ranging from 78 to 80°F. Monday will see a similar pattern, with a high of 84-87°F and a severe thunderstorm threat in the afternoon. By Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures will climb to 87-91°F, with lower chances of storms on Tuesday but a 30-40% chance on Wednesday.

The forecast also highlights the potential for multiple storm chances, particularly Monday afternoon and Tuesday evening, mainly south of I-80. Additional storm chances persist Wednesday through Thursday night. With high uncertainty regarding specific storm timing and coverage, residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts.
