Rockford, IL – A brutal cold snap will impact northern Illinois this week, with wind chills dropping below -20°F and snowfall likely by midweek.
According to the National Weather Service, the coldest conditions will hit Tuesday morning, with wind chills between -10°F and -25°F. A low-pressure system could bring accumulating snow late Tuesday into Wednesday.
Tuesday will be bitterly cold, with a high near 13°F but wind chills making it feel like -15°F. By Wednesday, a 40% chance of snow could lead to hazardous travel, with highs around 15°F.
Thursday will be mostly sunny with highs near 19°F, and temperatures will slowly rise into the mid-20s by Friday. However, overnight lows will stay in the single digits, keeping conditions dangerously cold.
Residents should bundle up, check road conditions before traveling, and prepare for icy commutes.
