Fort Worth, TX – North Texas residents should prepare for an arctic blast this week as dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills as low as -10°F move in. A National Weather Service (NWS) Extreme Cold Watch is in effect from Tuesday evening through Thursday morning, bringing a risk of hypothermia and frostbite for those exposed to the elements.

According to the NWS, temperatures will drop sharply Tuesday night as a cold front moves through the region. Winds gusting up to 30 mph will create dangerously low wind chills. The coldest period is expected Wednesday night, with lows around 16°Fand brisk north winds.

The five-day outlook includes mostly sunny but cold conditions Wednesday and Thursday, with highs only reaching 32°F and 36°F, respectively. Friday and Saturday will warm slightly, with highs in the 40s and 50s, but overnight lows will remain near freezing.

Residents should take precautions by dressing in layers, bringing pets indoors, and ensuring outdoor pipes are insulated. Portable heaters should be used safely, and generators should never be operated inside.
