Eureka, California – Strong northerly winds are expected to hammer California’s North Coast through early Monday, with gusts approaching 40 mph over exposed ridges and coastal headlands.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the highest risk of gusts greater than 35 mph begins Saturday afternoon and intensifies into Sunday evening, especially for areas like Fort Bragg, Shelter Cove, and Point Arena. Wind probabilities peak at 85% by 5 p.m. Sunday in locations such as Shelter Cove, with coastal zones seeing elevated risk through the overnight hours.

Communities along Highway 101 and the rugged coastline—including Eureka, McKinleyville, and Trinidad—may see scattered impacts like downed tree limbs, minor power outages, and travel disruptions for high-profile vehicles. Outdoor items and holiday decorations should be secured before Saturday afternoon to prevent wind-related damage.

Winds will gradually subside by Monday morning, but elevated gusts may linger along ridgetops into the early commute hours. Residents in higher elevations or near exposed terrain should remain weather-aware and avoid outdoor burning due to increased fire danger.

More updates are expected through the weekend. Wind advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
