Eureka, CA – Residents across Northwest California are waking up to the return of rain Friday, with showers expected to start early this morning and continue intermittently through tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Eureka.
Forecasters said rain will begin in most coastal and inland areas between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Friday, tapering off by Saturday morning. Rainfall totals are expected to range from a half inch to one inch, with higher amounts possible in elevated terrain.
The system will bring the region’s first measurable rainfall in several days, improving short-term humidity and helping reduce dust and fire concerns. However, forecasters say impacts to travel could occur on Highway 101 and other mountain routes during heavier showers.
“Rain totals will generally be a half inch to an inch, although some locations in higher terrain could receive over an inch of rainfall,” the weather service said in its Friday morning update.
The next weather system is expected to move out by early Saturday, leaving mostly dry conditions through the weekend. Temperatures will remain seasonable, with highs in the mid-60s along the coast.
