Eureka, Calif. – Dangerous marine conditions are expected along the Northern California coast as gale-force winds and hazardous seas continue through Thursday night. Gusts up to 45 knots and steep waves reaching 15 feet could create treacherous conditions for mariners from Wednesday night into Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the most severe conditions will affect offshore waters, but steep and hazardous seas may push into northern inner waters by late Thursday. Coastal communities from Crescent City to Fort Bragg are under advisories, with boaters urged to remain in port and avoid travel in open waters.

Fishermen, recreational boaters, and shipping operators face the greatest risk, as steep seas paired with strong northerly gales could make smaller vessels especially vulnerable. The Coast Guard advises checking emergency equipment, securing loose gear, and postponing non-essential departures until conditions ease.

Hazardous seas are expected to linger through Thursday evening, with additional marine advisories possible if strong winds persist into the weekend. Mariners should continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and local harbor authorities.
