Medford, Oregon – Drivers crossing high-elevation routes in Siskiyou County could face whiteout conditions and wind gusts up to 60 mph beginning late tonight, with travel turning dangerous above 4,500 feet.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday until 4 p.m. Sunday for western, south central, and north central Siskiyou County. Forecasters expect 5 to 10 inches of snow at higher elevations, with the heaviest snowfall falling late tonight through Sunday morning. Strong south to southeast winds will whip across exposed ridges and passes, increasing the risk of blowing snow and tree damage.
Dead Horse Summit on Highway 89, Etna Summit on Sawyers Bar Road, the Mt. Shasta Ski Park Highway, Grass Lake near Mt. Hebron, and Bunny Flat along Everitt Memorial Highway sit within the hardest-hit zone. Roads at or above 4,500 feet may become snow-packed and slick before sunrise Sunday.
Snow levels will begin rising Sunday afternoon before precipitation tapers off, but impacts may linger into the evening hours. Travelers should carry emergency supplies and check Caltrans QuickMap or call 511 for real-time road conditions. Additional advisories remain possible if snowfall rates intensify overnight.
