Portland, OR – Wet and stormy conditions are returning to the Pacific Northwest as a series of low-pressure systems and an atmospheric river bring heavy rain, mountain snow, and gusty winds through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, a weakening low is moving into Oregon’s interior early this week, keeping a frontal boundary stalled near the coast from Northern California to Washington. This setup will maintain periods of steady rain along the coast and into the Cascades.

By late Tuesday into Wednesday, a stronger cyclone in the northeast Pacific is expected to reinforce the system, leading to renewed wind gusts and heavier precipitation across the region. The enhanced moisture feed from the Pacific will bring atmospheric river conditions, capable of producing locally heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms from northern California through western Washington.

Farther inland, colder air will turn precipitation to snow across higher elevations of the Northern Continental Divide, where Winter Weather Advisories are already in effect.

Forecasters warn of slick mountain passes, possible localized flooding, and reduced visibility in wind-driven rain and snow through Wednesday. Travelers are urged to monitor updates and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
