Eureka, CA – Rain is on the way for northwest California, with showers expected to begin late Sunday and continue into early Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka. A second, stronger round of rainfall is forecast to arrive on Tuesday, bringing higher totals and possible travel impacts.
According to the NWS, rainfall amounts will vary depending on location. Northwest portions of the region, including Humboldt and Del Norte counties, could see more than one inch of rain through Wednesday. Other coastal and inland areas may pick up around a half-inch to an inch. Forecasters noted that Tuesday’s storm carries the greatest uncertainty, but also the potential for the heaviest rainfall.
The agency cautioned that heavier rainfall could lead to hazardous road conditions and increased runoff. Motorists should be prepared for slower commutes, slick roads, and reduced visibility, especially during peak morning and evening travel times on Monday and Tuesday.
While the exact storm track remains uncertain, NWS officials advise residents to stay alert for updated forecasts over the next 24 to 48 hours. “Regardless, expect a soggy Monday and Tuesday,” forecasters said in their Sunday morning briefing.
Residents across northwest California should keep an eye on local advisories and plan ahead for wet conditions as the new workweek begins.
