Huntsville, AL – A strong cold front is sweeping through Northern Alabama today, bringing gusty winds and bitterly cold temperatures. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory, warning of sustained winds up to 20 mph and gusts reaching 35 mph through 3 p.m.
According to the NWS, the advisory covers all counties in Northern Alabama and parts of southern middle Tennessee, including Huntsville, Florence, and Decatur. Winds this strong could blow unsecured objects, down tree limbs, and cause scattered power outages. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution, especially on elevated roadways.
Temperatures will remain chilly with highs only reaching 34 degrees today, while overnight lows will drop to around 25 degrees. Tuesday brings a slight chance of flurries in the morning, with temperatures ranging from 37 during the day to 24 at night.
Residents should secure outdoor furniture and holiday decorations to prevent damage. If you’re heading out, dress in layers and stay updated on local conditions. Sunny skies return Wednesday, but lows in the teens will keep the cold lingering through midweek. Highs will climb to 39 degrees by Thursday, with another slight chance of snow showers late Thursday night.
The NWS also advises using extra caution when walking on slick surfaces, as wind and freezing conditions could create icy patches. For ongoing updates, monitor local weather channels or visit weather.gov.
