Pueblo, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snow to southern Colorado, starting late Monday and continuing through Tuesday afternoon. Residents along I-25 and in the surrounding plains should prepare for hazardous travel as snowfall intensifies overnight.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow will arrive early Tuesday, with accumulations of 3 to 5 inches expected across El Paso, Pueblo, and Fremont counties. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Tuesday. Travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary trips, as slick roads and reduced visibility could disrupt the morning and evening commutes.
The snow will begin lightly Monday evening, increasing in intensity overnight before tapering off late Tuesday. Tuesday’s high temperatures will hover around 25°F, with wind chills making conditions feel even colder. Local officials recommend carrying emergency supplies in vehicles, including blankets, food, and water, in case of travel delays.
The extended forecast suggests sunny skies will return Wednesday, with temperatures gradually warming to a high of 40°F by Friday. However, subfreezing overnight lows will keep icy conditions a concern throughout the week.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and check road conditions by calling 511. If possible, plan to complete errands or commutes early to avoid peak storm impacts.
