Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania – Periods of accumulating snow are expected to impact much of northeast Pennsylvania today, with the greatest travel concerns developing east of Interstate 81 as light to occasionally moderate snow moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, winter weather advisories have been expanded to include more of northeast Pennsylvania, as well as parts of the southern Catskills and Sullivan and Delaware counties in New York. Snowfall will be most persistent through the morning and early afternoon, especially where southerly winds push moisture upslope into higher terrain.
Snow totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected across much of the Poconos, including Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, Hazleton, Honesdale, and Mount Pocono. Locally higher amounts are possible in elevated areas of the southern Catskills and far northeastern Pennsylvania, while lighter totals are expected west of I-81.
Snow is expected to transition to scattered snow showers later this afternoon and evening, but slippery road conditions could linger through tonight. Untreated roads, bridges, and mountain routes are likely to be most affected, particularly during periods of steadier snowfall when visibility briefly drops.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution throughout the day. Advisories remain in effect through late afternoon and evening, and additional updates are possible if snow bands linger longer than expected.
