Northeast New Mexico is under a severe weather alert as strong storms are expected to bring high winds and hail until 8 p.m. today. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a warning for residents in the area to be on high alert as scattered-to-isolated thunderstorms develop, particularly in the late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the storms could produce hail and wind gusts of up to 50 mph, posing a threat to property and outdoor activities. The weather service urges residents to seek shelter indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm’s peak hours.

This severe weather event is part of a broader pattern of near-record warmth and unstable atmospheric conditions affecting much of New Mexico. As the storm system moves eastward, the possibility of isolated severe storms could extend into central areas later this week.

Meteorologists recommend keeping an eye on weather updates and being prepared for sudden changes in conditions. Those in the affected regions should secure outdoor objects that could become projectiles in high winds and avoid being outside during periods of hail.
