Northeast Iowa and Southeast Minnesota: Isolated Storms Friday Night, Dry Stretch to Follow

La Crosse, Wis. – A weak line of storms could move across western Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota, and northeast Iowa Friday night, but forecasters say severe weather is unlikely.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, scattered thunderstorms are possible between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Friday, mainly along the Mississippi River Valley. The risk for damaging winds or hail remains very low, and rainfall totals are expected to stay under a tenth of an inch.

Areas including La Crosse, Winona, Prairie du Chien, and Decorah could see brief downpours and lightning during the evening commute. Drivers are urged to slow down on wet roads and keep alert for reduced visibility.

Conditions improve quickly overnight, with skies clearing into Saturday. Sunshine will dominate the weekend and early next week, with highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s and overnight lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. Winds may pick up slightly on Saturday, with gusts near 20 mph, before calming again Sunday.

No hazardous weather is expected after tonight, and forecasters say a dry stretch will last into Thursday.
