Huntsville, AL – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Northeast Alabama, effective until 10 PM tonight. The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, issued the watch in response to a cluster of thunderstorms moving eastward across the region.

According to the NWS, these storms could produce scattered damaging wind gusts of up to 70 mph and isolated large hail with diameters up to 1.5 inches. The affected area spans approximately 40 miles north and south of a line from 30 miles north-northwest of Anniston, AL, to 10 miles east-northeast of Anderson, SC.

Residents in the watch area are urged to remain vigilant and prepare for potentially dangerous weather conditions. The NWS emphasizes that a severe thunderstorm watch indicates that conditions are favorable for severe storms, which can occasionally produce tornadoes.
