DALLAS, Texas – North Texans will wake up Thursday to dangerous air quality and a high near 101 degrees across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. An official Ozone Action Day is in effect, adding another layer of concern for residents who already face extreme heat. Drivers, commuters, and outdoor workers are urged to take precautions.

According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, ozone pollution will spike Thursday under hot and stagnant conditions. Residents can reduce risks by limiting driving, carpooling, or using public transit. Keeping engines tuned, avoiding idling, and postponing outdoor chores like mowing can also help limit harmful ozone levels.

Heat will continue to be a major factor. The National Weather Service reports Thursday’s high will push into the low 100s with a heat index even higher. Residents across Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington should stay hydrated and avoid extended outdoor activity in the afternoon.

Storm chances return late Friday, with scattered showers possible along I-35 and across Tarrant and Dallas counties. Thunderstorms could bring brief downpours and gusty winds, offering some relief from the heat but also creating traffic hazards for the Friday evening commute.

Conditions ease slightly into the weekend, with highs in the low to mid-80s and increasing rain chances through Sunday. North Texas drivers should expect slick roads during showers and allow extra travel time.

The ozone alert remains in effect Thursday, and additional advisories are possible through the weekend as weather patterns shift.
