Fort Worth, TX – The National Weather Service (NWS) Fort Worth is warning residents across North and Central Texas of an elevated fire danger today as dry and breezy conditions follow a passing cold front.
Forecasters said relative humidity values between 15% and 25%, combined with northwest wind gusts up to 40 mph, will create favorable conditions for the rapid spread of any wildfires that ignite. The elevated threat covers areas including Dallas–Fort Worth, Waco, Killeen, Graham, and Cisco.
“Avoid outdoor burning and use extreme caution with any activity that could produce sparks,” the NWS advised. Residents are reminded to secure tow chains, avoid parking over tall grass, and never discard lit cigarettes outdoors.
While cooler temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s will persist through the afternoon, winds and low humidity will keep fire conditions dangerous through sunset. The NWS expects humidity levels to improve slightly overnight as winds decrease.
