Jackson, Mississippi – Strong to severe thunderstorms could develop north of Interstate 20 by Friday afternoon, bringing lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours to parts of central and northern Mississippi.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, lingering showers and isolated storms will taper off early Friday morning before skies briefly clear. Temperatures overnight will drop into the low to mid-70s. By mid-afternoon Friday, a new round of showers and storms is expected to build, especially along and north of the I-20 corridor. Areas including Yazoo City, Philadelphia, and Eupora are under the greatest risk for severe activity.

Highs will climb into the low 90s across most of the state, fueling storm development during peak heating hours. Commuters along I-55 and I-20 should monitor road conditions, as isolated cells could produce damaging winds and hazardous driving visibility. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and ensure weather alerts are enabled on mobile devices.

The storm threat should diminish by late evening, but additional advisories may be issued if activity persists. More summer-like heat and scattered storms are expected through the weekend.
