El Dorado, AR – A fast-moving line of severe thunderstorms is sweeping through south-central Arkansas and north Louisiana Saturday, prompting urgent warnings and elevated tornado risk.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT, impacting Union County in Arkansas as well as Union and Claiborne parishes in Louisiana. Radar indicated the storms were located from near Smackover to Homer, moving northeast at 45 mph.
The storms are producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, both capable of causing damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees. Residents in El Dorado, Bernice, Strong, and Summerfield are urged to seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
There is also a potential for tornado development, and a Tornado Watch remains in effect until 7 PM CDT for the region.
Residents should avoid travel if possible, secure outdoor items, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local media for updates.
This storm system is part of a broader severe weather pattern affecting the region this weekend, and more warnings may be issued throughout the day.
