Little Rock, AR – Severe thunderstorms swept through central Arkansas late Saturday morning, prompting urgent warnings for high winds and hail across multiple counties. The storms are expected to continue impacting the region until at least 12:30 p.m. CDT.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, radar indicated a strong line of thunderstorms moving northeast at 65 mph as of 11:52 a.m. The storms are bringing wind gusts up to 70 mph and quarter-size hail to parts of Prairie, White, Monroe, Jefferson, Lonoke, and Arkansas counties.
Communities including Des Arc, Humnoke, Judsonia, and McCrory are under direct threat. These storms are capable of causing roof and siding damage, downed trees, and dangerous travel conditions. A tornado watch remains in effect for much of the state through 7 p.m. Saturday.
Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoid windows. Mobile home dwellers should seek alternative shelter if possible.
This storm system comes amid an active severe weather pattern in early April, a time when Arkansas frequently experiences rapidly changing conditions. Authorities recommend monitoring NOAA weather alerts and staying indoors until warnings expire.
