Jacksonville, FL – A freeze watch has been issued for parts of southeast Georgia and northern Florida, with temperatures expected to drop into the mid-20s to low 30s from Thursday evening through Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville, the affected areas include cities such as Waycross, Douglas, Folkston, and Jesup in Georgia, as well as Lake City, Gainesville, and Ocala in Florida. Sub-freezing temperatures could pose risks to outdoor plants, pets, and vulnerable populations, including young children, the elderly, and those without shelter.
Residents are advised to take precautions, such as covering sensitive vegetation, bringing pets indoors, and ensuring proper heating for homes. The NWS also warns of potential impacts on agriculture, especially in areas where frost-sensitive crops are grown.
This cold snap is expected to last through Friday morning before temperatures gradually warm up over the weekend. For the latest updates, visit www.weather.gov/jax.
