Bismarck, ND – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across most of North Dakota through midnight Tuesday, with forecasters warning of heavy snow, high winds, and hazardous travel conditions just as Thanksgiving travel ramps up.
According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, snow totals are expected to range from 2 to 9 inches, depending on location. Northwest and central counties, including Williston, Minot, Jamestown, Bismarck, and Garrison, could see up to 9 inches, while southern and western regions—including Dickinson, Bowman, and Linton—may receive 2 to 4 inches.
Wind gusts up to 50 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow, with visibility dropping below one-quarter mile at times. Officials warn that travel will be difficult throughout the day, particularly along Interstate 94 and U.S. Highways 2 and 83, where slick, snow-covered roads are expected.
The Tuesday morning and evening commutes are both expected to be impacted, with travel disruptions possible across much of the state. Motorists are urged to carry a winter survival kit, including blankets, food, water, and a flashlight, in case of emergencies.
Conditions are expected to improve late tonight as snow tapers off, but gusty northwest winds will continue to cause drifting snow and low visibility through early Wednesday morning.
