Grand Forks, ND – Heavy snow and strong winds are creating hazardous conditions across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota today, as a winter storm continues to impact the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday, with total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches expected. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are reducing visibility to less than ¼ mile in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, travel along major routes, including I-29 and Highway 2, is discouraged due to drifting snow and slippery conditions. Motorists should carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight and water, and monitor road conditions through local transportation departments.

The storm is expected to taper off by Thursday evening, with decreasing clouds and frigid temperatures overnight. Lows are forecast to dip as low as -9°F, with wind chills dropping to -18°F. Friday will bring partly sunny skies and calmer winds, offering a brief reprieve.

Looking ahead, the weekend forecast includes mostly cloudy conditions with a slight chance of snow Saturday evening. Highs will hover around 15°F, while Sunday may warm slightly to 21°F. Cold temperatures and light winds are expected to persist into early next week.

Residents are urged to stay updated on weather conditions and road closures and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
