Grand Forks, ND – Residents in the northern plains should prepare for dangerously cold weather this week, with wind chills plummeting as low as -30 degrees by Saturday morning. Temperatures will hover in the single digits through the week, with snow possible late Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will remain partly cloudy with highs between 1 and 11 degrees. Northwest winds could reach up to 25 mph, pushing wind chills into the negative teens during the morning and nighttime hours. Friday offers little relief, as temperatures dip to lows near -14 degrees overnight.
By Saturday, a 20-30% chance of snow will accompany even colder temperatures, with highs struggling to reach above zero. Wind chills during the morning could reach life-threatening levels, falling to -30. Residents should limit outdoor activities, dress in layers, and monitor vulnerable individuals, including children and the elderly.
The cold snap will persist into the weekend, but sunny skies are expected to return Sunday. Highs will remain below freezing into early next week. Anyone traveling or spending extended time outdoors should prepare for hazardous conditions and check local updates regularly.
Stay safe, and remember to check on neighbors who may need assistance during these extreme temperatures.
