Grand Forks, North Dakota – Slippery roads and reduced visibility could impact late-night travel as a wintry mix moves through eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, isolated snow and rain will taper overnight, but another round of light precipitation is expected Wednesday with highs between 35°F and 45°F. Winds will stay steady out of the west at 7 to 20 mph, keeping road conditions variable across the Red River Valley.

Conditions briefly improve Thursday and Friday as temperatures surge, reaching as high as 63°F by Friday afternoon in parts of eastern North Dakota. Grand Forks and Fargo will see mostly cloudy skies, while southern areas warm into the 50s. This short-lived warm-up will help melt existing ice but could create standing water on roadways like I-29 and U.S. Highway 2.

By early Saturday, colder air pushes back in, bringing another chance of wintry mix with northwest winds increasing to 20 to 30 mph. That shift could refreeze moisture on roads, especially during the morning hours, creating slick conditions for drivers and potential delays.

Residents should remain alert for changing road conditions, especially overnight and early in the day. Additional advisories may be issued as the weekend system develops.
