Grand Forks, ND – A spring storm system is gripping eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota with snow, freezing fog, and powerful winds expected to continue through Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Sunday, with gusts reaching 45 mph and snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches. Blowing snow and ice are reducing visibility to half a mile or less, particularly along Interstate 29, creating hazardous road conditions. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extreme caution, especially in open rural areas where whiteout conditions may develop.
Cities impacted include Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, Hatton, Ada, Crookston, and Mayville, among others. Conditions should begin to ease late Sunday night, though Monday morning may still bring slick spots and low visibility in some locations.
Looking ahead, Monday will bring calmer weather with mostly sunny skies and a high near 44°F. Tuesday introduces a chance of freezing rain, followed by rain showers and highs in the upper 40s. By Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures rise into the low 50s, offering a much-needed spring thaw.
