Bismarck, ND – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for southwest and portions of south-central North Dakota this afternoon through early evening, as critical fire weather conditions are expected.
The National Weather Service issued the warning for the area, stating that temperatures will rise to around 60°F, while afternoon humidity levels will drop as low as 22 percent. Northwest winds will intensify, reaching speeds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, further increasing the risk of fire spread. Authorities warn that any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and may become difficult to control.
According to the National Weather Service, the affected regions include Golden Valley, Billings, Stark, Morton, Slope, Hettinger, Grant, Bowman, Adams, Sioux, Emmons, and McIntosh counties. The warning will remain in effect from 1 PM CDT (Noon MDT) to 9 PM CDT (8 PM MDT) today.
Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning and exercise extreme caution during this time. Fire departments are on high alert, and the risk of wildfires is significantly elevated.
