Grand Forks, N.D. – Showers will roll into eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota late Wednesday as a cold front pushes across the region, raising the chance of slick roads and reduced visibility overnight. Wahpeton and Park Rapids face the highest rain potential, with a 30–33% chance of receiving at least a quarter inch through early Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, an upper-level disturbance is driving the front, which will bring spotty afternoon showers before intensifying this evening. Rain chances climb sharply after 6 p.m., especially along the I-94 corridor and into central Minnesota, where Detroit Lakes, Wadena, and Thief River Falls could also see measurable rainfall.

Cities like Fargo and Valley City are in the 25–30% range for rain totals over 0.25 inches, with most activity peaking between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. Drivers are advised to slow down during heavier bursts and allow extra braking distance on wet roads. Light showers could linger into Thursday morning, particularly east of the Red River Valley.

Rainfall should taper off by mid-morning Thursday, but NWS officials say more unsettled weather may follow later in the week. Another advisory could be issued depending on storm development.
