Grand Forks, ND – Residents can expect a chilly start to 2025 as temperatures drop significantly on New Year’s Day. Breezy northwest winds will create brisk conditions, with morning lows ranging from -1 to 11°F and daytime highs between 7 and 15°F.
According to the National Weather Service, patchy fog will clear by Tuesday afternoon, but scattered light snow remains a possibility into the evening. Winds from the northwest will range between 10 and 25 mph, further dropping wind chills to near zero. Residents should dress warmly and limit prolonged outdoor exposure.
The weather will remain cold throughout the week. Wednesday night temperatures will fall further, with lows near -4°F. Thursday and Friday will stay dry but frigid, with highs of 8°F and 2°F, respectively, and gusts up to 21 mph making conditions feel even colder. By Friday night, the thermometer will plunge to -12°F, increasing frostbite risks for those unprepared.
Looking ahead, the weekend brings a 20% chance of snow on Saturday and Sunday, but daytime highs may improve slightly, reaching the teens. Those traveling along I-29 or nearby areas should exercise caution, especially during evening hours when icy conditions are likely.
