GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A brisk fall weekend is setting up across the Red River Valley, with gusty winds, cooler air, and a few scattered showers expected by Sunday afternoon. The mix of sunshine and unsettled skies will give residents a taste of true late-October weather before calmer, milder days return early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, breezy southwest winds today will shift northwest by Saturday, keeping temperatures in the mid-50s across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Light showers could develop Sunday, mainly along and east of the Red River and Highway 2. Rain chances remain low, but those attending fall events or traveling between Crookston and Grand Forks should keep a jacket handy.
Sunday’s highs will hover near 57°F, followed by cool nights in the upper 30s. Monday brings a short-lived warm-up with highs in the mid-50s and more sun before a fresh push of cool, dry air moves in by Tuesday.
Despite the breezy pattern, no frost or freeze conditions are expected this week. Fall colors are holding strong along the Red River and through Polk and Grand Forks counties, offering great conditions for weekend leaf viewing and pumpkin patch visits once the rain passes.
