Grand Forks, ND – A dense fog advisory remains in effect until noon Monday, creating hazardous driving conditions across local roads. Visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less in many areas, increasing risks for drivers on highways like US Route 2.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), freezing fog has created slippery conditions, especially on untreated roads and bridges. Travelers are urged to reduce speed, use low beams, and allow extra time for their morning commute. Fog will gradually lift by late morning, with cloudy skies persisting throughout the day.

Temperatures today will hover between 20°F and 32°F, marking the beginning of a week-long cold spell. Overnight lows will dip to 22°F, with north winds gusting up to 21 mph. These conditions will lead into Tuesday, which is expected to bring mostly cloudy skies and a high near 25°F.

By New Year’s Eve, breezy northwest winds and partly cloudy skies will dominate, with lows dropping to 8°F. New Year’s Day will usher in a frigid start to 2025, with early morning temperatures ranging from 0°F to 11°F and daytime highs barely reaching 15°F. A few light snow flurries may impact areas of northwest Minnesota.

The extended forecast predicts a gradual clearing of skies by midweek, with mostly sunny conditions Thursday and a high near 8°F. Drivers and residents should remain vigilant as cold temperatures and gusty winds may create hazardous conditions.

Plan ahead for icy commutes and bundle up for outdoor celebrations. Stay informed with real-time updates from the National Weather Service to ensure a safe and prepared week.
