Fargo, ND – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for large portions of North Dakota on Monday, with strong winds and low humidity creating dangerous fire conditions. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning as any fires that start could spread rapidly.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT for southeast North Dakota, including Griggs, Steele, Traill, Barnes, Cass, Ransom, Sargent, and Richland counties. Winds from the west will range from 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. A separate warning is in effect for southwest and south-central North Dakota, where gusts could reach 65 mph.

The strongest winds will coincide with a cold front moving across the state, shifting winds from the west to the north. Relative humidity is expected to drop as low as 20%, creating an environment conducive to rapid fire spread.

Officials urge residents to exercise caution, secure outdoor items, and avoid activities that could spark fires. The warning will expire Monday evening as humidity recovers.
