Grand Forks, ND – Severe thunderstorms are expected to affect North Dakota starting this afternoon and continuing into Monday evening. The main threats include hail up to the size of quarters and winds reaching up to 60 mph.

According to the US National Weather Service in Grand Forks, isolated severe thunderstorms are possible today from 5 PM to 10 PM. The risk level for these storms is categorized as 1, indicating isolated severe thunderstorms are possible. Residents are advised to stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to persist into next week, bringing hot temperatures near 90 degrees. By Tuesday, heat index values could reach around 100 degrees. Monday will see continued chances of isolated severe thunderstorms, mainly along and south of the I-94 corridor in eastern North Dakota.

Periods of high-level smoke may also continue to obscure the sky at times across the region. The forecast for the coming week includes highs in the mid-80s to low 90s, with the best chances for thunderstorms occurring today and Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to remain hot with high temperatures of 91 and 87 degrees, respectively.
