Fargo, ND – A powerful winter storm is expected to sweep across eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota beginning Tuesday afternoon, with hazardous travel conditions likely through late Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from 1 p.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. Thursday. Affected areas include cities such as Fargo, Moorhead, Bemidji, Valley City, and surrounding counties across the Red River Valley. Forecasters say there is a 70 percent chance of at least 6 inches of snowfall across the region, with wind gusts up to 35 mph.
Travel could be very difficult, especially during Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Blowing snow may significantly reduce visibility, particularly on open roads. Early Tuesday may see a rain-snow mix, with heavier snow developing by evening.
Road conditions may deteriorate quickly once snow begins accumulating. Authorities urge residents to prepare now by planning alternate routes, allowing extra travel time, and stocking emergency kits in vehicles.
This storm system could mark one of the more significant late-season snowfalls for the area. Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies as conditions evolve.
