Durham, NC – The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of central and northern North Carolina, warning of light snow and freezing drizzle expected from midnight Thursday through midnight Friday night.
The advisory covers counties including Forsyth, Guilford, Alamance, Orange, Durham, Person, Granville, Vance, Warren, and Halifax, encompassing cities such as Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Burlington, Chapel Hill, Durham, Henderson, and Roanoke Rapids.
Forecasters expect up to one inch of snow, with a light glaze of ice developing on elevated and untreated surfaces. The Friday morning and evening commutes are expected to be slick and potentially hazardous, particularly on bridges and shaded roads.
Temperatures will remain in the upper 20s to low 30s through Friday, allowing any precipitation to freeze quickly and persist into the evening.
Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time, especially during peak commuting hours. For real-time updates on road conditions, North Carolina residents can call 511 or visit drive.nc.gov.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve by late Friday night as precipitation ends and temperatures rise slightly.
