Raleigh, NC — A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and ice to central North Carolina starting Wednesday morning, threatening travel and power across multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service, the Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday for Granville, Halifax, Person, Vance, and Warren counties. These areas could see 4 to 6 inches of snow, making travel dangerous, especially during Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

Edgecombe, Wayne, and Wilson counties are also under the warning, expecting 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet, along with up to three-tenths of an inch of ice. Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice accumulation, the weather service warned.

Residents are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions by stocking emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water. Travelers should monitor road conditions by calling 511. Road crews are expected to be deployed, but travel may still be challenging through Thursday morning as the storm passes.
