Greenville, NC — A significant winter storm is set to impact eastern North Carolina, bringing heavy snow, sleet, and ice accumulations starting Wednesday morning and lasting through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, the region will see 2 to 4 inches of snow and sleet, with up to three-tenths of an inch of ice. The heaviest snow is expected in Greene, Pitt, Martin, Washington, Tyrrell, and Beaufort counties, while ice will be most severe in Martin, Pitt, Beaufort, Lenoir, Craven, Pamlico, Jones, Duplin, and inland Onslow counties.

The storm will begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday and continue until 10 a.m. Thursday. Power outages and tree damage are likely due to ice buildup, and road conditions could become hazardous, making travel nearly impossible, especially during Wednesday’s commutes.

Residents are urged to prepare by stocking up on essentials and keeping an emergency kit in their vehicles. For up-to-date road conditions, call 511.
