Greenville, NC – A winter storm is bringing ice and snow to eastern North Carolina, with worsening conditions expected through Thursday. Reports indicate icy roads near Farmville, west of Greenville, with more incidents likely as temperatures remain low.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, ice accumulation forecasts have increased, particularly from Jacksonville to New Bern, with up to 0.5 inches expected in some areas. The heaviest icing is likely along and west of U.S. 17, while snowfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are anticipated north of U.S. 64.
Temperatures will hold steady or drop slightly through the evening, with inland areas struggling to rise above freezing on Thursday. Any remaining wet surfaces are expected to refreeze overnight, making travel hazardous. Bridges and overpasses will be especially dangerous.
Residents are advised to limit travel, prepare for potential power outages, and monitor updates from local authorities. For real-time conditions and forecasts, visit weather.gov/mhx.
