Wilmington, N.C. – Summer storms could slam into the Wilmington area by 2 p.m. Tuesday, bringing damaging wind gusts, dangerous lightning, and localized flooding. North Carolina residents in New Hanover and surrounding coastal counties should prepare now for potential weather-related disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, severe thunderstorms are likely Tuesday, June 10, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours. Winds may gust up to 60 mph, especially near major roadways like U.S. Route 17 and I-40. The threat has prompted a Hazardous Weather Outlook for southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina.

Travelers should avoid unnecessary trips between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, especially along coastal and inland routes. Secure loose outdoor items, and have backup power plans ready in case of outages. Spotter activation may be needed during the strongest part of the storm, with the NWS monitoring conditions closely.

Storm chances taper slightly by Wednesday, though isolated thunderstorms remain possible through the weekend. Tuesday will bring the most concentrated severe threat of the week, making today the best time to prepare.
