North Carolina’s coast wakes up under a low gray ceiling, with patchy fog drifting across bridges and marsh roads near the Cape Fear River. Headlights reflect off damp pavement along U.S. 17 and Market Street, but brighter skies are pushing in.
The National Weather Service reports patchy fog through about 8 a.m., followed by sunshine and a high near 65 degrees today. Winds turn southerly this afternoon at 5 to 7 mph. The chill in the upper 30s quickly fades, replaced by a mild February breeze.
Tonight turns mostly cloudy with lows near 45. Wednesday brings a bigger warmup. Highs climb to 71 degrees under partly sunny skies, with southwest winds gusting up to 24 mph. That spring warmth builds even more Thursday.
A slight chance of showers develops Thursday, mainly before 1 p.m., with highs near 72. Rain chances remain around 20 percent Thursday night. By Friday, a 40 percent chance of showers arrives, and temperatures spike to 76 degrees. Expect occasional wet roads for the afternoon commute.
The weekend trends unsettled. Saturday carries a 50 percent chance of showers with highs near 69. Sunday stays mild near 61 with scattered showers possible. Cooler air slips in Sunday night, with lows falling into the mid-30s. If pavement stays wet inland, a brief flash freeze cannot be ruled out in colder pockets.
Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across the Southeast. A renewed stretch of spring warmth may settle in from Monday into late February.
