Virginia commuters are squinting through pockets of dense fog this morning, and visibility is reduced along stretches of I-495 and I-95. Streetlights glow in the mist, and temperatures sit near freezing in some spots. Travel may slow through midmorning as fog lingers along the I-95 corridor and near the Potomac.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, areas of dense fog are possible early today across northern Virginia and central Maryland. Skies turn partly sunny later, pushing highs near 67 degrees in Annandale. Winds stay light out of the southwest.
Clouds increase tonight with lows around 43. By Wednesday, a slight chance of rain develops after 1 p.m., with highs climbing to 61 degrees. Roads remain mainly dry through much of the day, but brief showers could dampen the late commute.
Rain chances ramp up Thursday. Highs reach 58 degrees with a 50 percent chance of rain, increasing to 70 percent Thursday night. Showers likely continue into Friday, especially after 1 p.m., with highs near 58. Plan for wet pavement and slower travel as the workweek ends.
The weekend brings cooler air. Saturday stays in the low 50s with scattered rain chances. By Sunday, highs fall into the mid-40s with a chance of rain and snow. If temperatures dip near freezing Sunday night, flash freezing could create slick patches on bridges and overpasses.
Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures returning by early next week. A milder pattern may build in from Monday through late February.
