Raleigh, NC – A crisp calm spreads across central North Carolina this morning, with still air and faint mist hanging over low fields. The first hint of winter’s touch arrives late tonight as patchy frost threatens early gardens and outdoor décor. Those in rural pockets near Wake, Johnston, and Person counties should protect tender plants or bring potted greens inside before dusk.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, light winds and clear skies will allow temperatures to dip near 34°F by early Wednesday morning. Frost formation is most likely in low-lying areas before sunrise. After that brief chill, the region turns noticeably warmer — highs rebound into the low 70s Wednesday and mid-70s by Friday under bright November sun.

Drivers heading out before dawn Wednesday could notice fog-like frost on windshields, especially along US-1 and I-40 corridors. While no freezing conditions are expected, the quick chill marks a seasonal turning point across the state as winter air begins mixing southward.

By Friday, a weak front from the west brings a 40% rain chance into early Saturday, but mild air lingers through the weekend. Highs hold in the upper 60s to near 70°F through Sunday with plenty of sun returning.

Forecasters say another cool push may arrive mid-next week, possibly signaling the region’s first widespread freeze before Thanksgiving. For now, the late-week warmth offers a perfect window for leaf cleanup, early decorating, or short fall travel before deeper cold sets in later this month.
