Charlotte, North Carolina – A dangerous stretch of hot, humid weather will grip the Charlotte area beginning Saturday, with temperatures climbing to 92°F and heat indices nearing 100°F by Sunday and Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a building heatwave will intensify across the Carolinas this weekend and peak early next week. Saturday kicks off the surge, with sunny skies and light southeast winds in the afternoon. By Monday, highs will hit 96°F with continued dry and hazy conditions.

Drivers along I-77 and I-85 should avoid extended travel during peak heat, especially between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. when sun exposure and surface temperatures soar. Residents are advised to stay indoors, use air conditioning when possible, and hydrate frequently. Light, breathable clothing and breaks in the shade are essential if you must be outside. Heat-related illness becomes more likely starting Monday and Tuesday.

Though no official heat advisory is in effect yet, areas east of the mountains — including Charlotte — could meet Heat Advisory Criteria by Tuesday afternoon. The pattern mirrors previous June heat surges seen across the Carolinas.

Expect mostly clear nights, with lows around 74–75°F, offering little overnight relief.

What’s Next: Conditions will stay dry but dangerously hot through midweek. Stay tuned as advisories may be issued by Monday morning.
