RALEIGH, N.C. – A Level 2 of 5 slight risk for severe storms will impact the western Piedmont of North Carolina Saturday afternoon and evening, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary threats. A Level 1 of 5 marginal risk is in place for other areas across central North Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service, the storms will develop throughout the afternoon and continue into the evening. The most significant hazards will include strong winds capable of downing trees and power lines, along with large hail that could damage vehicles and crops. Additionally, isolated flash flooding is possible, especially in urban areas where heavy rain may quickly accumulate.

Cities such as Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Charlotte are under the slight risk zone, while Raleigh, Durham, and surrounding areas face the lower-level marginal risk. Drivers should stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions, and residents are urged to have a way to receive weather alerts.

The severe weather threat will diminish after nightfall, but remain prepared for possible warnings throughout the day. Stay weather aware and take necessary precautions, such as securing outdoor objects and avoiding flooded roads.
