BUFFALO, N.Y. – A wet start to the day will greet much of New York this Saturday, with some drying expected as the afternoon progresses. Rainfall totals will be light, with areas near Lake Ontario, including the Genesee Valley and Finger Lakes, remaining cooler as a chilly northeast wind keeps temperatures in the low 50s.
According to the National Weather Service, conditions will remain damp through the morning, with lighter rain expected to move out by midday. Northern regions may see slightly more persistent showers, but the southern parts of the state should experience drier spells as the day goes on. The northeastern breeze off Lake Ontario will help limit temperature highs in these areas to near 50°F, while locations further south may reach the mid-50s.
In addition to the rain, roads could be slick during the morning commute, especially in higher elevations and rural areas, where visibility may also be reduced. Drivers should exercise caution, particularly on routes along the lakeshore and in the western part of the state, where light rainfall could lead to wet conditions.
As the afternoon rolls on, the rain should taper off, with some regions experiencing breaks in the clouds. However, the cool northeast winds will persist, keeping temperatures below average for this time of year. The threat of rain is expected to diminish entirely by evening, but an additional weather system may bring more rain early next week.
Stay tuned for further updates and be prepared for potentially slick roads during the morning.
