Charlotte, NC – A late-season chill will sweep across western and Piedmont regions of North Carolina overnight Saturday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Frost Advisory until 10 a.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, temperatures are expected to dip as low as 34°F from midnight through early Sunday morning. The advisory covers counties including Alexander, Iredell, Davie, Rowan, Catawba, Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, and others, with cities such as Hickory, Gastonia, and Salisbury likely to see widespread frost.

The advisory warns that sensitive vegetation may suffer damage or be killed if not properly protected. Residents are encouraged to take immediate precautions by covering plants or bringing them indoors before temperatures fall.

This unseasonable cold snap follows a pattern of fluctuating temperatures across the region this spring. While overnight frosts are not unusual in early April, Sunday morning’s chill comes after several days of warmer conditions, increasing the risk for newly planted gardens and crops.

The advisory is scheduled to expire at 10 a.m. Sunday as temperatures begin to rise with daytime heating. Drivers should also remain alert for isolated areas of patchy frost, especially in low-lying regions.

More updates will be issued if conditions change.
