Chehalis, WA – Residents across western Washington are being urged to protect outdoor plants and sensitive vegetation as back-to-back frost advisories remain in effect through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, the advisories began at midnight Saturday and are expected to continue each morning through 8 a.m. Sunday. The affected areas include the Middle Chehalis River Valley, Willapa and Black Hills, and the foothills and valleys of Thurston and Lewis counties. Communities such as Chehalis, Morton, Rochester, and Montesano are expected to see overnight lows near 32°F.

Forecasters say the drop in temperatures could lead to frost formation, which may damage or kill unprotected plants. Gardeners and homeowners should take steps to cover or bring in sensitive vegetation ahead of nightfall.

While April frosts are not uncommon in western Washington, the prolonged cold snap follows an unseasonably mild start to spring. Local officials recommend using breathable covers or moving potted plants indoors to reduce damage.

With similar temperatures forecast again late Saturday night into Sunday morning, residents should remain alert for chilly conditions before a likely warm-up next week.

Stay updated through the National Weather Service or local emergency alerts for any changes in advisories.
