Newport, NC – Drivers in eastern North Carolina should prepare for hazardous conditions as dense fog blankets the region Thursday morning. A strong cold front is also set to bring rain on Valentine’s Day, potentially impacting evening travel plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport, fog is expected to reduce visibility to under a half-mile in some areas early Thursday. Later in the day, showers will develop, with winds gusting up to 31 mph. Rain chances continue into Thursday night, with temperatures dropping to the mid-30s.
Valentine’s Day will bring sunshine but cooler conditions, with highs around 50°F and north winds up to 17 mph. A slight chance of showers returns Saturday afternoon, leading into a wetter Sunday with a 90% chance of rain and breezy conditions. By Monday, skies clear, bringing sunshine and highs near 49°F.
