Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch for southeastern North Carolina. This watch is effective Tuesday morning and afternoon, with conditions favorable for tornadoes until 5:00 PM EDT.

As Tropical Storm Debby progresses northeastward, there is an increased risk of tornadoes in the region. The watch area extends along and 30 miles either side of a line from 25 miles west of Charleston, SC, to 70 miles northeast of Myrtle Beach, SC, affecting parts of eastern North Carolina. The primary threats include the possibility of several tornadoes, particularly in coastal areas where instability is greatest.

According to the NWS, residents in the affected areas should remain vigilant and be prepared to take immediate action if tornado warnings are issued. Tornadoes associated with tropical systems can develop quickly and cause significant damage. The NWS advises staying informed by listening to local weather updates and having a plan in place.

Residents in the watch area should monitor weather conditions closely and seek shelter if necessary. The tornado watch replaces the previous watch, which was in effect until 6:55 AM EDT. The threat will persist throughout the day as the storm moves further inland.
