Raleigh, N.C. – Strong thunderstorms could rumble across central North Carolina Tuesday afternoon, with isolated severe storms expected to develop by early evening as a stalled front locks in multi-day rain chances across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a front stretching across the state will trigger diurnally driven showers and thunderstorms each day through at least Friday. Tuesday afternoon poses the greatest risk for stronger storms, with the potential for damaging winds, heavy rain, and isolated hail between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Cities like Chapel Hill, Durham, Cary, and Rocky Mount face a 60–70% chance of precipitation by Tuesday evening. Raleigh’s risk climbs to 55% by 6 p.m., with storm chances peaking again on Wednesday and Thursday. High Point and Greensboro also face increasing rain probabilities, reaching 65% midweek.

Drivers should plan for reduced visibility, slick roads, and localized street flooding during afternoon commutes. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms. Charge mobile devices and monitor local alerts in case of power outages or severe warnings.

Daily rain chances will persist across North Carolina through Friday, with stronger storm activity most likely each afternoon. Additional advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
